Boavista manager pleads with owner; RC Lens eyes Super Eagles standout

Boavista's head coach, known as 'Petit,' has earnestly urged the club to reject any potential offers for their players, particularly amidst mounting speculations about Bruno Onyemaechi's potential departure. Despite Portuguese giants Porto's discreet pursuit of Onyemaechi, French outfit RC Lens has emerged as a new contender in securing the player's services.
Reports from FootMercato indicate that RC Lens has expressed interest in signing Onyemaechi. The Ligue 1 team, having secured a place in the prestigious Champions League, is actively reinforcing their squad to maintain competitiveness for the upcoming season.
After the exits of Seko Fofana and Lois Openda, RC Lens has already secured signings like Andy Diouf and Elye Wahi. However, they are determined to further strengthen the left side of their team to provide competition for Deiver Machado.
Boavista's left-back, Onyemaechi, is the prime target for RC Lens. As a regular starter at Boavista, he participated in 35 matches last season, contributing two goals and an assist.
Onyemaechi and Boavista have started the new season impressively with victories over Benfica and Portimonense. In their recent convincing 4-1 win against Portimonense, the 24-year-old full-back even provided an assist.
With this strong start to the campaign and Boavista's inability to make new signings, Petit has engaged in discussions with club president Vítor Murta to prevent further departures from the squad before the transfer window closes.
Petit emphasized the significance of retaining key players, stating, "Yes, that's what I said, and I've been talking to the president... We can't lose anyone; we're fine, but the championship is long. We must have a strong group because there are positive and negative cycles. We hope that the market closes."
