Birmingham City has emerged as the latest club in the race to secure the services of Josh Maja, the free agent striker who hails from London and recently declined Bordeaux's contract renewal offer, making him available in the summer transfer window.
Reports indicate that Birmingham City is highly interested in adding the 24-year-old goal scorer to their squad on a free transfer, with French reporter Ignazio Genuardi, via Football League World, highlighting the strong desire of the Blues to secure his signature.
If the deal materializes, Birmingham City would be acquiring a player with valuable Championship experience, as Maja had previously made seventeen appearances in the second tier of English football during the 2017-2018 season while playing for Sunderland.
His loan spell at Stoke City in the latter half of the 2021-2022 campaign saw him feature in fifteen matches, further showcasing his capabilities at that level.
Despite currently being without a contract, Maja has not been short on suitors, thanks to his impressive performances in the past season, where he scored an impressive seventeen goals in all competitions for Bordeaux, marking his best tally in a single professional season.
As Bordeaux seeks to find a replacement for the departed Maja, they are reportedly nearing the completion of a deal for Maribor's Slovenian national team player, Žan Vipotnik.
In addition to Birmingham City, Maja has also been linked with the Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, as well as clubs in France and Belgium, making his future destination an intriguing topic of discussion in the ongoing transfer window.
