Beşiktaş, the prominent Turkish club, has faced disappointment in their pursuit of Nigerian forward David Okereke, who currently plays for Cremonese.
The Turkish giants were keen on strengthening their offensive line and had their sights set on the talented 25-year-old striker.
Before entering negotiations with Cremonese, Beşiktaş had already come to an agreement with Okereke, securing his consent for an annual salary of €1.5 million.
However, their official offer of €4 million (approximately ₦3.55 billion) was rejected by Cremonese, as reported by the Italian press and cited by Turkey's Sporx.
It seems Cremonese is holding out for a higher offer, likely around €6 million, the same amount they paid Club Brugge last summer to acquire Okereke's services.
Despite Cremonese's relegation from Serie A at the end of the last season, Beşiktaş remains undeterred and is expected to arrange another meeting with the Italian club soon, aiming to secure the talented Nigerian striker for their squad.
However, Beşiktaş faces competition in the race to sign Okereke, with English side Burnley also reportedly showing interest in the player.
Throughout the just-concluded campaign, Okereke showcased impressive form, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 38 appearances.
His career has been marked by consistency, accumulating a total of 55 goals and numerous assists in 240 matches.
As the transfer negotiations continue, both Beşiktaş and Burnley are vying for the signature of this promising forward, who has demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess and attacking abilities.
