Besiktas legend Sergen Yalçın has urged Galatasaray to take decisive action to secure Victor Osimhen's future at the club, insisting that the Nigerian striker stands head and shoulders above any other forward in Turkey. Yalçın, a player and manager who made history by winning the Turkish Süper Lig with Besiktas, believes that retaining Osimhen is crucial for Galatasaray’s ambitions.
Osimhen’s move to Istanbul last summer, following the collapse of his potential transfer to Chelsea, has turned out to be a masterstroke for the Turkish club. On loan from Napoli, the Nigerian forward quickly adapted to Turkish football, scoring an impressive 29 goals across all competitions. His stellar performances have been integral to Galatasaray's pursuit of a historic domestic double, with both the league and cup within their reach.
However, as Europe's top clubs begin to circle once again, including the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, and PSG, Galatasaray faces the difficult task of keeping hold of their prized asset. The club is already exploring options to make Osimhen’s stay in Istanbul permanent, with the striker’s loan deal set to expire soon.
Sergen Yalçın, in his comments on Kafa Sports via 24 Saat Gazetesi, emphasized the importance of securing Osimhen's future at Galatasaray, stating: “Victor Osimhen 100 percent should be taken for Galatasaray.” Yalçın believes the club must not hesitate and make the move happen, underlining that Osimhen's presence would be vital for their success next season.
Although Mauro Icardi, who has been recovering from injury, is expected to lead Galatasaray’s attack next season, Yalçın argues that Osimhen is the key to securing trophies. The Besiktas icon pointed out that while Icardi is a talented player, Osimhen guarantees a higher level of performance and is a player who can deliver silverware for the club.
Yalçın also compared Osimhen to Fenerbahce’s attacking options, including Edin Dzeko and Youssef En-Nesyri. According to Yalçın, Fenerbahce's center forwards are not capable of playing the same style as Osimhen. “You cannot press up front with these players,” Yalçın said. “But with Osimhen, you can press, which gives the team more offensive power.”
He further criticized Fenerbahce's overall play, especially their goalkeeper’s poor footwork and the team's struggle to establish attacking moves. Yalçın firmly believes that Galatasaray is a much more dynamic and problem-solving team than their rivals. As Fenerbahce had previously failed in their attempt to sign Osimhen, the striker's future remains uncertain, and his decision will likely come at the end of the season. For Galatasaray, securing his long-term future is now a priority.
