Muhammet Ali Sevilmis, a 36-year-old phone repair shop owner in Berlin's Kreuzberg district, anticipates a home-game atmosphere, expecting the stadium to be filled predominantly with Turkish fans. Having spent 500 euros ($540) for a ticket following Turkey's victory against Austria, Sevilmis emphasized the importance of being present to celebrate.

 

The Turkish community's excitement extends to high-profile attendees, including Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who plans to attend the match despite ongoing diplomatic tensions. A controversial hand sign by Turkish defender Merih Demiral during the Austria match has led to German condemnation and a UEFA investigation, further straining political relations. In response, Berlin police have increased security, classifying the match as a "high-risk game" to ensure safety amidst heightened emotions.

 

Berlin, home to the largest Turkish community outside Turkey, is bustling with anticipation. The Kreuzberg district, a cultural hub with numerous Turkish eateries like Kavurma-Kofte, is fully booked and set to broadcast the match. Owner Kemal Salis, 64, expressed pride in hosting such an event, noting the team's impressive form and the festive atmosphere that has been long missed. Nearby, at Imren restaurant, patrons like Ibrahim Filikci, 29, are still reveling in the joy from the Austria match, reflecting a peaceful yet enthusiastic community spirit.

 

As anticipation builds, Turkish fans in Berlin are ready to outshine their Dutch counterparts, with Sevilmis confident that the Turkish presence will dominate. Despite some criticisms of dual loyalties within the community, Sevilmis, a Berlin native, remains steadfast in his support for Turkey, even if they face Germany in a potential final. The vibrant Turkish fan base is poised to bring unparalleled energy to the quarterfinals, creating an unforgettable match-day experience.
