Bendel Insurance Football Club defeated Assemblies of God FC of Ekpoma 3-0 on Sunday evening at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to win the 2025 Edo FA Cup.
The 2023 Federation Cup champions have been the undisputed winners of the Edo FA Cup since 2019.
In this year's Edo FA Cup final, Vincent Akpikpi opened the scoring for Insurance in the 30th minute of the game.
The amateur side, AG FC of Ekpoma, put up strong resistance to prevent Insurance from increasing the tally before halftime.
As the second half began, Coach Greg Ikhenoba expressed confidence in his boys' ability to lift the cup as he made a double substitution, withdrawing his best central defenders, Dennis Chigozie and Ugwu Emmanuel, for Abel James and Promise.
Despite this, the Benin Arsenals continued to mount pressure on the Assemblies Boys, which paid off in the 61st minute when Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi brilliantly converted a spot-kick to double Insurance’s lead. An AG FC defender had brought down Austin Ogunye in the box, resulting in a penalty kick.
Osahon Osobo completed the rout in the 73rd minute after a brilliant delivery. He picked up Meyiwa’s through pass before dribbling past two defenders to score his second goal for Insurance in three outings.
The Benin Arsenals had earlier defeated the boastful BJ Foundation FC 2-0 on Saturday evening at the same Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after their trip from Maiduguri, qualifying for the final against the Assemblies of God Boys, who had knocked out FC Delight 2-0 in the first semifinal match.
Meanwhile, Edo Queens have also retained the Edo FA Cup after beating Fortress Ladies 3-0.
