2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 5: Bendel Insurance fails home test again in a fairy draw against El-Kanemi Warriors

It was an electrifying and breathtaking encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin when the 2023 FA Cup Champions, Bendel Insurance Football Club, faced off against the reigning champions, El-Kanemi Warriors, in the Match Day 5 game of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).


The game lived up to the hype, as the two giants shared the spoils, settling for a 1-1 draw.


The visitors took the lead just two minutes into the game through Ibrahim Mustapha, who shot into an empty net following defensive blunders from Insurance. They were yet to settle into the game before the unexpected happened.


The Benin Arsenals continued to push for the much-needed equalizer.


They took the battle to the Warriors' goal, and their efforts paid off when Michael Enaruna capitalized on a loose ball and scored to level the game for his side in the 19th minute.


The prompt response from the hosts calmed the tension that had been building. The Benin Arsenals maintained a high tempo until the end of the first half.


At the start of the second half, Insurance FC coach Monday Odigie made five substitutions in a bid to secure the winning goal, which did not come. Despite several strong moves and hard work from both sides in their attempt to claim maximum points, the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.


The Benin Arsenals will be guests to new entrants Ikorodu City next weekend for Match Day 6.
