Bendel Insurance Coach says absence of Osarenkhoe responsible for lack of goals

Posted : 06 November 2023
Bendel Insurance's Coach, Monday Odigie, has attributed his team's goal drought to the absence of their prolific striker, Imade Osarenkhoe, who was transferred at the beginning of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. Osarenkhoe left Bendel Insurance to join United FC in the United Arab Emirates. Last season, Imade was the top goal scorer with ten goals across all competitions and signed a four-year deal with United FC.

During a review of NPFL Match Day 7, Odigie acknowledged that Osarenkhoe's absence had a negative impact on the team's goal-scoring performance. He also praised his players for their victory over Remo Stars and admitted that Bendel Insurance had been struggling to fill the striker's position after Osarenkhoe's departure. Coach Odigie expressed optimism that Bendel Insurance FC would improve as the league progresses, emphasizing that the team is a work in progress.

“We came with our game plan to win and my players did very well especially in the second half but Insurance defenders showed character.

“They were solid. I must give it to them. They were crazy and didn't allow anything come near their goal area. " Ogunmodede said.

Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin made a triumphant return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, securing a 1-0 victory over table-toppers Remo Stars of Ikenne in Benin. Sarki Ismael scored the only goal in the 24th minute of the match, with a long-range strike catching Remo Stars' goalkeeper Charles Tambe off guard, leading to jubilation among the home fans at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Bendel Insurance FC maintained their dominance throughout the game, both in the first and second halves. However, in the 70th minute, the Daniel Ogunmodede-led Remo Stars side made efforts to stage a comeback but fell short. Despite their impressive performance and victory, they faced tough resistance from the visitors, including some close calls.

In the 77th minute, the Insurers survived a scare when Remo's Sikiru Alimi missed an open net chance, and a later goal by Jide Fatokun was disallowed due to a foul throw. The controversial goal led to protests from Remo Stars, resulting in additional play time beyond the regulation 90 minutes. Coach Daniel Ogunmodede expressed displeasure over the disallowed goal but acknowledged the referee's decision and praised Bendel Insurance's defenders for their solid performance.

With this narrow victory, Bendel Insurance climbed to the sixth position on the league table, amassing ten points from five outings. Their next challenge will be an away game against Doma Utd in a rescheduled match day six fixture at Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

The Coach of Bendel Insurance, Monday Odigie has blamed the lack of goal by his team to the absence of its prolific striker, Imade Osarenkhoe who was sold at the start of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
