Beerensteyn names USA's "big-mouthed" attitude, looks forward for final

Dutch forward Lineth Beerensteyn expressed her satisfaction at the exit of the USA from the World Cup, citing their "big-mouthed" attitude as a reason for her celebration.
The defending champions were victorious over the Netherlands in the 2019 final, but their title defense came to an end with a penalty shootout loss to Sweden on Sunday.
Beerensteyn, who plays for Juventus, didn't hold back in her response to the USA's elimination, stating, "When I first heard that they were out, my initial thought was, 'Yes! Goodbye!'" She continued, "Right from the beginning of this tournament, they were already being very vocal. They were talking about making it to the final and such."
She emphasized that actions on the field should precede boasting, adding, "My perspective is that you need to prove your worth on the pitch before making such claims."
The USA had been aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive title and had never before failed to reach the semi-finals. However, their campaign stumbled after an initial 3-0 win against Vietnam, resulting in no further victories, including a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in the group stage, allowing the Dutch to top Group E.
Beerensteyn clarified that her remarks were not meant to be rude, stating, "I still hold a lot of respect for them, but now they are no longer in the tournament." She suggested that this experience could be a learning lesson for the USA, advising them to refrain from making lofty predictions that are distant from their actual performance.
Megan Rapinoe, a prominent player for the USA who is set to retire by year-end, expressed her feelings about the loss, describing it as "like a cruel joke." The USA's unexpected exit has drawn criticism from both journalists and fans, with descriptions of the campaign ranging from "catastrophic" to "confusing."
