Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany expressed hope on Monday that Harry Kane, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, could return to the pitch before the end of the year. Kompany spoke ahead of Bayern's German Cup last-16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen, revealing that there is a possibility Kane could feature in one of the remaining matches before the year’s break.
Kane, who sustained a hamstring tear during Bayern’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, will be absent for "a few games," according to Kompany. The Bundesliga leaders have five more fixtures, including a crucial Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, before their winter break.
The England captain has been in excellent form for Bayern, netting 20 goals across all competitions this season. While Kompany acknowledged that Kane’s absence will leave a significant gap, he emphasized that the team has plenty of talent to step up in his place. He mentioned several options, including Thomas Müller, Mathys Tel, Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sané, as potential contributors.
Despite the setback, Bayern remains confident in their ability to find solutions. Kompany noted that while Kane’s goals will be hard to replace directly, other players, such as Jamal Musiala, are capable of stepping into the role. Meanwhile, Gnabry’s participation in the upcoming Cup match remains uncertain due to knee issues, while Joao Palhinha returned to training after recovering from a muscle injury sustained while on international duty with Portugal.
