Bayer Leverkusen secured a 3-1 victory against Hoffenheim on Sunday, keeping their hopes of a Bundesliga title alive by remaining six points behind leaders Bayern Munich. The win came after a disappointing 2-2 draw with RB Leipzig, with Leverkusen now sitting second in the table with 45 points, while Hoffenheim remains in 15th place with 18 points, just four above the relegation zone.
Leverkusen took control early, with Victor Boniface, returning from injury, scoring in the 15th minute after a pass from Alejandro Grimaldo. Five minutes later, Jeremie Frimpong doubled the lead with a composed finish from Aleix Garcia's pass, and Patrik Schick sealed the win with a stunning shot into the top corner in the 51st minute. Although a penalty awarded to Leverkusen in the first half was overturned by VAR, they remained in control throughout most of the match.
Despite having a player sent off when Grimaldo received a second yellow card in the 60th minute, Leverkusen managed to hold onto their lead, even as Hoffenheim pulled one back through Gift Orban in the 62nd minute.
However, Hoffenheim failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage, and Leverkusen secured their eighth straight league win. With the German Cup quarterfinals against Cologne on Wednesday, Leverkusen looks to extend their impressive run.
