Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly reducing its asking price for Nigerian striker Victor Boniface, as the club is looking to sell him in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to Sport Bild, the German side is now aiming for a lower transfer fee than the previously expected €70m.
Earlier in January, Boniface was on the verge of making a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr for €70m. However, the deal fell through when the club decided to sign Jhon Duran instead. Since then, Boniface's situation at Leverkusen has become more complicated.
Following the failed transfer, the 25-year-old forward found himself relegated to the bench. Despite scoring two goals shortly after the failed transfer, he has struggled to make an impact when given playing time. This has negatively affected his performances and behavior, with one of the key incidents being a public argument with teammate Emiliano Buendia during a 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Leverkusen’s management is reportedly frustrated with Boniface's recent behavior, which they feel does not align with the club's professional standards. With the start of next season approaching, the club appears keen on moving him out of the squad, especially as they aim to balance their roster for the new campaign.
The club is also not keen on having both Boniface and Patrik Schick in the team for the upcoming season. As a result, it seems increasingly likely that Boniface will be sold this summer. Reports indicate that Leverkusen has set a fee of around €50m for the striker.
This move is part of the club’s strategy to manage their finances and squad composition. Selling a key player each summer has been a trend, and Boniface's sale appears to be the next step in that process. His departure seems inevitable, with Leverkusen looking to make room for new talent while still securing a healthy transfer fee.
For Boniface, the upcoming summer transfer window could be pivotal in his career, as he seeks a fresh start following his difficult period at Leverkusen. Whether he remains in Europe or finds a new challenge in another league remains to be seen, but his potential move is one to watch closely in the coming months.
