Bayer Leverkusen's Managing Director of Sports, Simon Rolfes, has supported Victor Boniface amidst his recent dip in form in the German Bundesliga.
The 22-year-old initially showcased remarkable form, competing with the likes of Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and VfB Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy on the top scorers' chart, recording seven goals in his first seven games.
Boniface earned recognition with three Bundesliga Rookie of the Month awards and one Player of the Month accolade during this impressive run. However, he has gone goalless in the last five league games, despite contributing with three assists in that period.
Rolfes remains unfazed by this temporary downturn, emphasizing that fluctuations are normal, especially for a young player like Boniface. He highlighted the adjustment period required for a player transitioning from the Belgian league to the Bundesliga, citing the need to adapt to the rhythm and intensity of the games.
The Super Eagles forward boasts 12 goal involvements in twelve Bundesliga games, maintaining an impressive average of a goal or assist per game in his debut season in the German top-flight. Additionally, Boniface has recently found the net in his last two appearances in the UEFA Europa League, indicating his continued goal-scoring prowess despite the Bundesliga goal drought.
