Forward Emo James put the "Prosperity Boys" ahead in the 16th minute from Wisdom Magbisa's pass, as he caught the visitors' defense line napping. James unleashed a fierce shot that went past Niger Tornadoes goalkeeper, Joshua Enaholo.
Midfielder Wisdom Magbisa made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute, following a beautiful drive from Emo James. Magbisa mesmerized the Minna-based defense line, having previously missed a close-range effort.
Having dominated proceedings, the second half resumed with the Prosperity Boys continuing their search for goals. Awual Sadiq increased the scoreline to 3-0 in the 50th minute, ensuring that Niger Tornadoes would return home empty-handed, despite securing three points in Yenagoa last season in the NPFL.
Rabiu Abdullahi compounded the woes of Niger Tornadoes in the 65th minute when Hassan Oladimeji picked the ball, found Wisdom Magbisa—who had been a constant threat to the visitors—and located Abdullahi, who slotted in the ball.
When it seemed the Prosperity Boys were going to maintain a clean sheet, the visitors reduced the deficit in the 81st minute, with a goal from captain Abba Khalid. However, they struggled to penetrate a solid Bayelsa United backline, featuring Gabriel Biriduba, Ogundare Arise, Issa Yusuf, and Hassan.
The Prosperity Boys will next face El-Kanemi Warriors this weekend.
In a post-match interview, Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United, Ladan Bosso, expressed his satisfaction with the result, stating that the team's main problem has been finishing. He explained that with this victory, fans should expect more goals, and that attention has now shifted to El-Kanemi Warriors.
Niger Tornadoes Head Coach, Majin Mohammed, acknowledged that his side underestimated Bayelsa United, as well as the impact of fatigue.
