Bayelsa United FC protests illegal acquisition of players by NPFL clubs
Posted : 11 July 2023
The attention of Bayelsa United has been drawn to an unauthorized use of three players from the club by two Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL clubs.
The club on Tuesday queried Rivers United for featuring two Bayelsa United players Alex Oyowah and Osagie Onisodumeya in the ongoing Naija Super 8 tournament at the Mobolaji Johnson stadium in Lagos.
This according to the Bayelsa United management contravene the rule nine and framework of the NPFL for Alex Oyowah, Osagie Onisodumeya and Taiwo Adbulrafiu to be featured by Rivers United and Lobi Stars.
According to Bayelsa United the trio have two years contract with the club that would last till 2025, hence featuring for Rivers United was capable of breaching the rules of NPFL which makes Rivers United culpable under rule 9:29.
The club therefore appeals to Rivers United on the abuse of procedures by the Pride of Rivers, an action that amounts to inducement of Bayelsa United players, holding Rivers United in breach of rule 9:39:1 and 9:39:2.
It notes that a damage of N1 million Naira only will be awarded in favour of Bayelsa United against Rivers United and Lobi Stars for exemplary damage to deter future occurrence in Nigeria league.
Bayelsa United explains that Osagie Onisodumeya, Alex Oyowah and Taiwo Adbulrafiu still have a valid contract and that it was illegal to see them in Rivers United and Lobi Stars colours despite their salary increment.
