The 2024 Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament has entered its advanced stage, with four teams remaining for the semifinal battle set to take place after an explosive quarterfinal stage. The postponed Remo Ladies versus Nasarawa Amazons game was concluded on Sunday morning.
Defending champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, and Heartland Queens are the remaining clubs competing for the final tickets.
Nasarawa Amazons came from behind to beat Remo Ladies 2-1 in a match that started on Saturday afternoon but was put on hold due to heavy rain at the University of Benin Sports Complex.
The match officials postponed the game at about 72 minutes of play because of the downpour, with the score standing at 1-1.
The remaining portion of the game was concluded on Sunday morning at the same venue, with the Amazons progressing to the semifinals after a 2-1 victory over Remo Ladies.
The defending champions of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament (BOWFT) and reigning premier league champions Edo Queens Football Club look strong enough to retain the cup after thrashing Abia Angels 4-0 in the first quarterfinal match at the University of Benin Sports Complex.
The Moses Aduku-managed Edo Queens will host Nasarawa Amazons in one of the semifinal matches on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the University of Benin. The kickoff time is 10:00 AM.
Former champions Bayelsa Queens and Heartland Queens of Owerri will also engage in their semifinal battle at the same time at the Western Boys High School Mini Stadium.
In the quarterfinal match, Edo Queens’ prolific winger Chioma Moses scored twice, while Emem Essien and Folashade Ijamilusi contributed to the 4-0 victory for the WAFU-B champions to reach the semifinals.
Bayelsa Queens’ victory over Benin-based Fortress Ladies was delayed until the second half after a strong challenge from the Benin side before ending 2-0 to advance.
Heartland Queens, on the other hand, edged past Espoir FC of Benin Republic with a 1-0 win to advance to the semifinals.
