Barcelona bounced back in style with a dominant 7-1 victory over a struggling Valencia on Sunday, ending a run of poor form in LaLiga. Fermin Lopez was the star of the first half, scoring twice, while Frenkie de Jong, Ferran Torres, and Raphinha also found the back of the net, giving Barcelona a commanding 5-0 lead at the break.
Valencia had no answer to Barcelona’s ruthless attacking play, with their defense falling apart in the face of constant pressure. Despite Hugo Duro pulling one back for Valencia early in the second half, Barcelona continued their assault, with Robert Lewandowski and an own goal from Cesar Tarrega completing the rout.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick made several changes to the lineup, hoping to spark a response from his players following a disappointing run in domestic competitions. Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo started on the bench, while Pedri was sidelined due to illness.
The team came out strong from the start, with De Jong opening the scoring just three minutes into the match. Torres added another, followed by Raphinha's well-taken goal, and Lopez's quick thinking set up the fourth. Lopez added a fifth before halftime, capitalizing on a rebound from Raphinha's shot that hit the post.
After Valencia pulled one back through Duro’s goal, Barcelona didn’t take their foot off the gas. Lewandowski came on to seal the victory with a clinical strike for his 17th goal of the season, and an own goal by Tarrega further piled on the misery for the visitors.
Flick praised Lopez’s all-around performance, noting his contribution in attack and defense as key to the team’s dominant display. Despite the massive win, Barcelona remain third in LaLiga, seven points behind leaders Real Madrid and three behind Atletico Madrid.
The loss was a crushing blow for Valencia, who remain stuck in 19th place, four points from safety. Valencia defender Jose Gaya expressed his frustration, admitting that the team’s performance was far below expectations and apologizing to the fans.
Meanwhile, in other LaLiga action, Athletic Bilbao’s 0-0 draw with Leganes saw them drop further behind Barcelona, while Getafe secured a crucial 3-0 win over Real Sociedad to move up to 14th. Rayo Vallecano also fought back to beat Girona 2-1.
