Barcelona secured a crucial 4-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday, narrowing the gap on La Liga leaders Real Madrid and second-placed Atletico Madrid. Despite playing the final 30 minutes with 10 men after Fermin Lopez's red card, Barcelona capitalized on a slip-up by the top two, with Madrid and Atletico drawing 1-1 in their match on Saturday.
Robert Lewandowski, Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, and Eric Garcia all found the net for the Catalans, who now sit just two points behind Madrid and one behind Atletico in the tight title race.
The match at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium began at a frantic pace, with Lamine Yamal forcing a great save from Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland early on. Barcelona took the lead from the resulting corner, with Raphinha’s cross finding Lewandowski, who netted from close range to make it 1-0.
However, Sevilla responded almost immediately, with Ruben Vargas equalizing just a minute later after a mix-up in Barcelona's defense. Barcelona’s day was further complicated when Ronald Araujo was forced off due to injury, replaced by Pau Cubarsi.
In the second half, Barcelona regained the lead through Lopez, who scored just after the break from a brilliant cross by Pedri. Raphinha then extended the advantage with a stunning long-range effort in the 55th minute.
However, Lopez was sent off for a reckless challenge on Djibril Sow in the 60th minute, leaving Barcelona to defend their lead with a man less. Sevilla pressed forward but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, with Barcelona’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny making several key saves.
Barcelona sealed the win late on when Eric Garcia nodded in at the far post from a deflected Raphinha cross. Despite being down to 10 men, the visitors remained solid in defense and comfortably held off any late Sevilla attempts. The victory was a crucial one for Barcelona as they continue their push for the La Liga title, benefiting from their rivals' slip-ups while managing to secure all three points in a challenging match.
