Super Eagles B invitee and Lagos-based Smart City FC’s reliable defender, Afeez Bankole, is fully confident that the Super Eagles B team will outclass their Ghanaian opponents and secure a ticket for the next CHAN tournament, scheduled to take place across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda in 2025.
Afeez, who was among the players invited to the Eagles' camp in preparation for the CHAN qualifiers, strongly believes the Super Eagles will triumph over Ghana. Despite not being with the team currently, he expressed confidence in the squad’s quality to overcome one of their fiercest football rivals and book their spot in the tournament.
The former Nasarawa United star and assistant captain of Smart City FC is optimistic about the Eagles' hunger to return to the CHAN tournament after missing out on a few editions.
“We all know it’s always a classic when it comes to Nigeria and Ghana,” he said. “It’s a clash of the titans, but I strongly believe we will get the better of them this time because we have quality players in our team to do the job in the final battle in Nigeria this weekend.
“It’s the pride of every player to represent their country at international tournaments, and we have too much quality in our league not to be part of the CHAN tournament. I still have a role to play in the team when we qualify for the tournament.
“We were able to get a draw in the first leg in Ghana, and we know the return leg this weekend will be tough. However, I believe the team will secure all three points at stake, by the special grace of God,” he concluded.
The Super Eagles B team and their Ghanaian counterparts are competing for a spot in the next CHAN tournament, set to take place in East Africa. The first leg ended goalless in Ghana, with the return leg scheduled for this weekend in Nigeria.
