Leon Balogun, the Super Eagles defender, played for Glasgow Rangers in a testimonial match honoring Allan McGregor, who retired after an illustrious career at Rangers with 216 clean sheets in 488 all-competition appearances.
Balogun came on in the second half and featured for the entire duration as Rangers attempted to equalize, but Newcastle emerged victorious with a late goal from young Scottish defender Harrison Ashby.
This friendly marked Balogun's second appearance for Rangers, having previously featured in their 2-0 win against Hallescher FC as a second-half substitute.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Cyriel Dessers is yet to make his debut for the club.
Rangers have three more pre-season games scheduled against Hamburger, Olympiakos, and Hoffenheim.
