Balogun, Man Utd youth, renews Watford

Hamzat Balogun, a talented product of the Manchester United academy, has expressed his excitement after securing a new contract with Championship club Watford.

In recent months, Watford revealed their intentions to retain the services of several promising players from their academy, and Balogun was among those offered a new deal.

The young Nigerian player has now officially inked his first professional contract, a one-year agreement that runs until June 30, 2024, with the possibility of an additional season in favor of Watford.

During the previous season, Balogun played a crucial role in Watford's development squad, helping them reach the finals of the Herts Senior Challenge Cup. 

Additionally, he showcased his skills as part of the U18s team that impressively reached the fifth round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup.

Overjoyed by his new contract, Balogun expressed his pride and gratitude, emphasizing that this achievement has been a lifelong dream. 

He feels relieved to have accomplished this milestone and considers it an honor to earn this opportunity with Watford.

Balogun highlighted the collective effort of his teammates in reaching this point, and he looks forward to taking the next step together with them. 

His primary goal now is to gain as much playing time as possible and to potentially make his professional debut in the upcoming season.

Speaking to Watford's official website, he stated, "It’s a proud moment for me and my family. It’s something I’ve hoped for ever since I was a kid. Now I’ve finally done it, it’s very relieving and I’m honored to earn the opportunity."

Having spent nearly a decade at Manchester United, Balogun made the decision to join Watford in August 2021 by signing scholarship forms. 

This move has proven to be a significant step in his development, and he is eager to continue his growth as a player within Watford's setup.

As he sets his sights on the new season, Balogun is enthusiastic about the prospect of experiencing men's football and learning from a winning environment to further hone his skills and make a positive impact on the team.
