Due to the stringent Schengen visa requirements for the summer, Super Eagles players Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis are facing obstacles in traveling to Spain to join their Nottingham Forest teammates for preseason training.
Despite Awoniyi's exceptional performances during the previous season, where he scored vital goals that secured Nottingham Forest's survival in the Premier League, both Nigerian internationals are currently unable to obtain the necessary visas for entry into Spain.
The club is diligently working to find a resolution, hoping to have Awoniyi and Dennis available for their upcoming preseason match against Levante on Saturday.
As reported by The Athletic, the delay in obtaining visas for Nigerians entering Spain may be attributed to the need for specific documentation unique to their nationality.
Awoniyi, who arrived at Forest from Union Berlin for £17.5 million, had a remarkable 2017–2018 season, netting 11 goals across all competitions, including significant strikes against his former club, Liverpool, and against Arsenal, securing Forest's continued presence in the Premier League after a 24-year absence.
On the other hand, Dennis, who was acquired from Watford for over £20 million, had a more modest impact, scoring two goals in 19 games.
Nonetheless, Nottingham Forest is committed to resolving their visa challenges promptly, as they look forward to having their Nigerian stars fully integrated into the team for the upcoming season.
Despite the current visa hurdles, Awoniyi recently shared a heartfelt declaration of love for his wife on social media, adding a personal touch to his journey with Nottingham Forest.
