Atalanta has officially completed the permanent signing of Belgium forward Charles De Ketelaere from AC Milan after a successful season on loan, the Serie A club confirmed on Saturday. The Europa League winners expressed their satisfaction with the acquisition in a brief statement, highlighting De Ketelaere's impact.
Since joining Atalanta on loan from Milan last summer, De Ketelaere has been instrumental, contributing 14 goals and 11 assists during an exceptional campaign for Gian Piero Gasperini's team. His performance played a key role in Atalanta's historic season, which saw them clinch their first major trophy in 61 years by winning the Europa League and secure a spot in the revamped Champions League.
The move marks a turnaround for De Ketelaere, who struggled to make an impact at Milan after his 35 million euro transfer from Club Brugge two years ago, failing to score in any of his 40 appearances for the club. Atalanta has exercised their option to buy the 23-year-old for a reported fee of 22 million euros, securing his services for the upcoming seasons. De Ketelaere is currently with Belgium at Euro 2024, preparing to face Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine in Group E.
