Association Sportive de la Vallée de l'Ouémé (ASVO) FC assistant coach Damian Kpakpo has assured Beninese fans that Fatai Osho will lead the team to qualification for the Super League.
Kpakpo, speaking about the 2024 Optima Energy Gold Cup preseason tournament, assured that it would help put the team in top shape for the upcoming season.
Reacting to ASVO FC's 0-0 draw with Ijebu United in their second game of the tournament, Kpakpo said that the team was in high spirits.
"We are all really excited to be in Nigeria for the Optima Energy Gold Cup. It is the platform we want to use to assess the team, especially with the new players joining us," said Kpakpo.
"Our first match was tough against Beyond Limits as we featured a mix of old and new players, along with talents from our academy. It was a unique experience for us, and the coaches and players are learning new things from Fatai Osho. Some players also had the opportunity to participate in a preseason tournament outside the Benin Republic.
"Osho is a top coach in the Nigeria Premier Football League, so we have a lot to learn from him. In our second game against Ijebu United, we played better and secured a draw. If our players had capitalized on their chances, we could have won the match.
"I can say that we are improving in our matches, and everyone is confident that Osho can make things work for ASVO in the new season."
After missing out on qualifying for the Benin Championnat National playoffs (Super League) for the first time last season, Kpakpo is optimistic that ASVO FC will perform better this time.
"We are eager to start again and qualify for the playoffs. The preseason has been challenging, but I am confident that upon returning to Benin for the new season, our fans will see an entirely different ASVO.
"ASVO FC has some new players from Nigeria who will add quality and experience to the team and help us qualify for the Super League."
