Aston Villa winger Moussa Diaby is set to complete a transfer to Al-Ittihad for approximately £50.4 million. The 25-year-old has traveled to Saudi Arabia to undergo a medical examination and finalize the move after spending only one season at Villa Park. Diaby joined Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for a club-record fee of around £51.9 million last summer, but manager Unai Emery has decided to sell the French international.
The decision to sell Diaby follows Aston Villa's re-signing of Jaden Philogene from Hull City, who was brought back for around £13.5 million. The club is optimistic that the academy graduate will make a significant impact upon his return. During his time at Villa, Diaby made 54 appearances, scored 10 goals, and played a key role in helping the team secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, which qualified them for the Champions League.
Aston Villa is actively reshaping their squad ahead of the new season. Last month, they sold midfielder Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.4 million and have since made several notable signings. These include Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus, left-back Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for £35 million, and winger Lewis Dobbin from Everton for approximately £9 million.
On Tuesday, Villa also finalized the £50 million acquisition of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. The club's recent activity reflects their strategic adjustments as they prepare for the upcoming season and aim to strengthen their squad.
