Aston Villa outbid Tottenham, secures Nigerian Golden Eaglets for N930 million

Posted : 15 June 2023
In an impressive display of their transfer prowess, Aston Villa has emerged as the triumphant party in the race to acquire the services of Jamaldeen Jimoh, a highly talented player eligible for the Nigerian Golden Eaglets, signaling a significant move for the Midlands club.

According to a reputable source, the Express & Star, Aston Villa has reached an agreement with their local rivals, West Bromwich Albion, to secure the signing of the 16-year-old prodigy.

The deal, reportedly valued at approximately £1 million (equivalent to around N930 million in Nigerian currency), highlights Villa's determination to secure the services of this promising young talent.

This acquisition represents a major coup for Aston Villa, as numerous top-tier clubs in the Premier League were vying for the opportunity to secure Jimoh's signature.

Notably, Tottenham Hotspur had been closely monitoring the Anglo-Nigerian midfielder with a keen interest in potentially bringing him to their ranks.

However, despite their efforts, the North London club fell short in matching Aston Villa's enticing offer to the player, ultimately losing out on his coveted talents.

Although Jimoh's current contract is set to expire this month, West Bromwich Albion will still be entitled to compensation due to his status as an under-24 player.

The club had previously offered him a scholarship deal in anticipation of the upcoming season.

As per the report, West Bromwich Albion will stand to gain financially if Aston Villa decides to sell Jimoh in the future, as a ten percent sell-on clause has been included in the agreement that facilitated his move to the Premier League side.

By committing to Aston Villa, Jimoh has now followed in the footsteps of another promising teenager of Nigerian descent, Tim Iroegbunam.

In the summer of 2021, Iroegbunam made a similar transition from West Bromwich Albion to Aston Villa, highlighting the growing allure of Villa Park as a destination for young talents seeking to further their development and showcase their skills at the highest level.

With the signing of Jamaldeen Jimoh, Aston Villa has once again demonstrated their ambition and ability to attract and nurture exceptional young talents.

This move not only enhances the squad's depth and potential for success in the future but also underscores the club's commitment to building a formidable team capable of competing at the highest echelons of English football.

Villa fans eagerly await the opportunity to witness the impact and contributions that Jimoh will bring to the club as he embarks on this new chapter in his promising career.
