Aston Villa move up to fifth in Premier League, boosting chances for European competition
Posted : 26 April 2023
Aston Villa defeated Fulham at Villa Park to advance to fifth place in the Premier League and increase their prospects of participating in a European tournament for the first time since 2010.
Tyrone Mings' glancing header from John McGinn's wonderful inswinging corner set up the key goal, his first in the league since November 2021.
Andreas Pereira's acrobatic volley into the side netting gave Fulham the lead after only 30 seconds, but they were unable to generate any more quality opportunities.
With their 10th straight victory in the Premier League, Unai Emery's Villa are currently five points ahead of third-place Newcastle United despite having played two more games than the Magpies.
After losing to Rapid Vienna in the Europa League, they haven't competed in Europe since.
