Aston Villa's ambitions for the title encountered a hurdle as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth at Villa Park. Despite being unbeaten in the Champions League and sitting atop their group after victories against Young Boys, Bayern Munich, and Bologna, Villa failed to convert their European success into a domestic win. They initially took the lead in the 76th minute when Leon Bailey assisted Ross Barkley, who scored his first goal for the club.
However, the hosts' joy was short-lived as Bournemouth equalized six minutes into stoppage time, thanks to a headed goal from Evanilson. The late strike denied Villa the chance to build momentum in their quest for the title and left them with mixed feelings following their recent European triumph.
In another thrilling encounter in west London, Brentford triumphed over fourth-bottom Ipswich in a high-scoring 4-3 match. Ipswich's Sam Szmodics opened the scoring with a well-placed shot in the 28th minute, followed quickly by a goal from George Hirst. Brentford responded before halftime with Yoane Wissa's strike and an own goal from Harry Clarke, bringing the teams level at 2-2.
Brentford took the lead in the second half with a penalty from Bryan Mbeumo, awarded after Clarke fouled Keane Lewis-Potter. Clarke's day went from bad to worse when he received a second yellow card late in the game.
Although Liam Delap equalized for Ipswich in the 86th minute, Mbeumo clinched victory for Brentford with a dramatic last-minute goal. Meanwhile, Wolves managed a commendable fightback to draw 2-2 against Brighton, preventing themselves from suffering a sixth consecutive league defeat.
