Super Falcons and Al-Ittihad Ladies defender, Ashleigh Megan Plumptre, has secured a two-year contract extension with her club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This new agreement ensures that the Nigerian international will continue her career in the Saudi Women's League after an impressive stint with the team.
The 26-year-old defender originally joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 following the expiration of her contract with Leicester City Women in the English Women’s Super League (WSL). Her move to Saudi Arabia marked a new chapter in her career, and she has now committed to staying at the club for an extended period.
Plumptre was a key figure for the Super Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, held in Australia and New Zealand. She featured in all four of Nigeria’s matches during the tournament before making the switch to the Middle East. Now, sixteen months later, her journey in Saudi Arabia continues with this contract renewal.
Al-Ittihad Ladies officially announced the contract extension on their social media platforms, confirming the player's prolonged stay. The club highlighted Plumptre’s importance to the squad and her continued role in their future plans.
“The Al-Ittihad Club announces the renewal of the contract of first-team player, Nigerian international Ashleigh Plumptre, for two years,” the club stated.
Speaking on the decision, Al-Ittihad’s CEO, Domingos Oliveira, emphasized that retaining Plumptre aligns with the club’s vision of keeping top talents who are eager to grow and contribute significantly. He expressed confidence in her abilities and wished her and her teammates success in their quest for more achievements.
Plumptre also played a crucial role in Nigeria’s qualification for the Olympics for the first time in sixteen years. However, she was unable to participate in the final stages due to a surgery that sidelined her. Despite this setback, her commitment to both club and country remains evident, and she will now focus on the next phase of her career in Saudi Arabia.
