Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has shared that Arthur Okonkwo, on loan from Arsenal, is keen to return to playing but refrained from specifying when the goalkeeper will be back.
Okonkwo is currently with his parent club, Arsenal, for a minor surgery and will rejoin Wrexham once the procedure is complete. The Hale End Academy graduate endured a broken jaw in Wrexham's League Two match against Harrogate Town on November 28. Despite playing through pain and following the club's medical advice, he was substituted at halftime.
Initial assessments suggest Okonkwo's recovery may take weeks rather than months, and he is expected to wear a protective mask upon his return.
"We will evaluate the surgery outcome and proceed accordingly," stated Parkinson. "It could have been worse; it could have been better. I think that is the best way of describing it. There's a fracture in his jaw, and he is having surgery this week. It's a shame, but that's football. Arthur is a resilient individual and is eager to return to playing as soon as possible."
Okonkwo, who joined Wrexham on a season-long loan just before the summer transfer window closed, has featured in thirteen matches. In less than a month, the 22-year-old secured a regular spot in the first team and achieved five clean sheets in England's fourth tier.
