Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his desire for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to remain at the club, countering the growing speculation surrounding a potential January transfer. Ramsdale, 25, has seen limited playing time recently, with David Raya taking on the role of the Gunners' No. 1 goalkeeper. Despite reported interest from clubs like Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as Newcastle United seeking a goalkeeper due to Nick Pope's injury, Arteta affirmed, "I want Aaron with us. I am very happy to have two very, very good goalkeepers, and Aaron is staying with us."
Gareth Southgate, England's manager, warned Ramsdale about potential risks to his Euro 2024 spot if he continues to have infrequent playing opportunities. Arteta acknowledged the conversation with Ramsdale about his playing time but emphasized Ramsdale's eagerness to contribute to Arsenal. Arteta stated, "Like any player, he wants to play for Arsenal. That's what he wants to do. Then the other is a consequence." Arteta aims to support Ramsdale's development at Arsenal, with an eye on enhancing his chances with the England national team.
When pressed about the possibility of Ramsdale joining Newcastle or any other transfer in January, Arteta refrained from making categorical statements. He stated, "I won't say that no player is going to go to Newcastle. Or no member of the staff either. I won't say it." Arteta emphasized the fluid nature of transfer situations and declined to provide absolute assurances about any player's status.
Arsenal is optimistic about having Takehiro Tomiyasu back for their Tuesday match against Luton after the Japanese international encountered a calf problem in the recent victory over Wolves.
