Mikel Arteta expressed his pride in Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly after the young talent earned his first England call-up under Thomas Tuchel. The 18-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise this season, cementing himself as an important player for Arsenal despite only making his debut in September.
Having been with the club since the age of nine, his selection for the national team is a significant milestone for both him and the Gunners. Arteta acknowledged the achievement, calling it a proud moment for the club and emphasizing his confidence that Tuchel and his staff will handle Lewis-Skelly's development properly.
Originally a midfielder, Lewis-Skelly gained attention with a stunning solo goal in Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Manchester City in January. He has since transitioned to a left-back role and remains a crucial part of Arteta’s squad.
His rapid rise to England selection highlights the unpredictable nature of football, and Arteta believes his story serves as an inspiration for other young players. The teenager is one of four uncapped players in Tuchel’s squad, with England set to face Albania and Latvia in upcoming international fixtures.
Meanwhile, Arteta also commented on Ben White’s potential return to the England squad after a self-imposed absence of over two years.
Although White was not included in Tuchel’s latest selection, the Arsenal boss revealed that discussions have been positive regarding his reintegration. Given White's recent knee surgery and extended absence from Arsenal’s lineup since November, Arteta suggested that his return to the national team would depend on timing and his physical readiness.
