Arsenal sign Declan Rice for £100 million, potentially becoming the most expensive British player in Premier League history

Arsenal has broken their transfer record to sign England midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham for a fee of £100 million ($131 million) plus £5 million ($6.5 million) in add-ons, surpassing their previous record signing of Nicolas Pepe for £72 million.
The 24-year-old Rice's move to Arsenal could also make him the most expensive British player in Premier League history, potentially exceeding the £100 million Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish.
Rice expressed his emotions about leaving West Ham, a club he loves, but stated that he couldn't turn down the opportunity to join Arsenal and be part of the squad that manager Mikel Arteta is building. Arsenal has been adding firepower to their squad after mounting an unexpected Premier League title challenge last season but falling short to eventual champions, Manchester City.
Manchester City had a previous offer of £80 million plus £10 million in add-ons rejected for Rice, and Arsenal's bid was believed to have exceeded their valuation. Rice is set to join Arsenal on their preseason tour of the United States and could make his competitive debut in the Community Shield against City on August 6.
West Ham anticipated Rice's departure after guiding the club to the Europa Conference League title last month. The club confirmed his exit, and their joint chairman, David Sullivan, expressed pride in Rice's development from their Academy of Football to becoming the most valuable young player in English football.
Rice had spent his entire senior career at West Ham, making his first-team debut in 2017 and captaining the club in the 2022-23 season. He also made 43 appearances for England since his debut in 2019. The decision to leave West Ham was tough for Rice, but he expressed his ambition to play at the highest level, which led him to join Arsenal.
