Arsenal's Premier League title hopes took a significant hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Goodison Park. The Gunners' only goal came in the 34th minute when Leandro Trossard finished a counterattack following a pass from Raheem Sterling.
However, Everton equalized early in the second half with a penalty from Iliman Ndiaye after Myles Lewis-Skelly fouled Jack Harrison. Despite a few chances at both ends, neither side was able to secure a winning goal, and the match ended in a draw, giving Liverpool an opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Arsenal's failure to win meant that Liverpool now need just 11 points from their remaining eight matches to clinch the Premier League title. Mikel Arteta's side seemed distracted by their upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, with key players like Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Thomas Partey starting on the bench.
Arsenal struggled to create clear chances, even with a few set-pieces, and their play lacked the fluidity seen earlier in the season. Their solitary goal came after a defensive mistake by Everton, but they couldn't capitalize on further opportunities.
Everton, on the other hand, were boosted by the point but have been struggling for form since a promising start under manager David Moyes. The team has now gone six games without a win, including five draws, putting their mid-table position at risk of stagnation.
Despite a rejuvenated effort in the second half, with Abdoulaye Doucoure forcing a save and Ndiaye converting the penalty, Everton were unable to take all three points. The result leaves them 15 points clear of the relegation zone, with seven games remaining in the season.
With three home games left at Goodison Park before their move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock ground next season, Everton will need to improve their performances to finish the season strongly.
Captain James Tarkowski made his return after a suspension scare, but his booking added to his record for most yellow cards in Premier League history without a red. Everton's point was crucial for their survival hopes, but they must aim to find better form in their remaining fixtures to ensure a successful end to the season.
