Arsenal's pursuit of Michael Kayode has hit a setback, as the promising right-back, who represents the Italian youth team and has Nigerian heritage, is reported to have agreed on a fresh contract with Serie A club Fiorentina.
It was rumored that Arsenal had been closely observing Kayode, considering a move for him in the upcoming January transfer window.
However, Fiorentina is poised to resist interest from Arsenal and other potential suitors by announcing a contract extension for Kayode.
Expert in the transfer market, Fabrizio Romano, has disclosed that Kayode has committed to a new contract with Fiorentina, securing him until the end of the 2027-2028 season, adding another layer of assurance to the Italian club.
The official confirmation of the agreement with the Italian-Nigerian defender by Fiorentina is expected in the next few days.
Kayode's reputation has soared following his impressive performances for Italy during the 2023 European U19 Championship, where he notably scored the match-winning goal in the final against Portugal and displayed versatility in various positions.
At the age of 19, Kayode has made a breakthrough into Fiorentina's senior team, featuring in seven matches across all competitions this season. He earned his first call-up to Italy's U21 national team in September, underscoring his growing potential.
Kayode made the move to Fiorentina in the summer of 2021, following stints with the youth teams of Juventus and Gozzano.
