Arsenal legend Ian Wright has raised concerns about how Tottenham Hotspur is utilizing their record signing, Dominic Solanke. Wright believes that Solanke, who joined Tottenham for a significant fee, is not being used effectively by the club.
Solanke, who has only appeared in two games so far this season, has faced challenges settling in at Tottenham. The team’s lackluster start to the season has not helped his situation. Solanke has been under scrutiny, particularly for his performance during a match against Arsenal, where he faced criticism from various quarters, including Manchester United’s Gary Neville.
Neville criticized Solanke for a missed opportunity in the first half of the game, as Tottenham suffered their second defeat of the season. Despite the criticism, Wright has defended Solanke, arguing that the forward is not being used to his full potential by Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
Wright highlighted Solanke’s track record and capabilities, noting that although he hasn’t scored many goals, his skills and potential are evident. He believes that Solanke’s strengths lie in his link-up play, hold-up play, and ability to run channels, which could provide Tottenham with valuable options that other players might not offer.
Wright emphasized that Solanke should be focused on utilizing these strengths to contribute to Tottenham’s play rather than feeling pressured solely to score goals. He suggested that if Solanke can play to his strengths and remain relaxed, he will be in a better position to seize scoring opportunities.
The ongoing criticism may persist if Solanke does not start finding the net soon and if Tottenham continues to struggle with results. Solanke will have an opportunity to score his first goal of the season when Tottenham faces Coventry City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Tottenham’s next Premier League match is scheduled against Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Saturday, where Solanke will hope to make a significant impact.
