Arsenal boss praised Akinola, "very good"

Posted : 26 July 2023
Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola has shared the valuable advice he received from Arsenal's first-team manager, Mikel Arteta.

Having signed a two-year deal with Arsenal from Huddersfield Town in September 2020, Akinola's contract was later extended for two more years before the start of the 2022-2023 season.

During the first half of the 2021-2022 season, he was promoted to first-team training on numerous occasions and made his unofficial debut for the Gunners in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford in September 2021.

However, much of the past year saw Akinola away from Arsenal due to back-to-back loan spells at Dundee United and Chesterfield. Nevertheless, his loan experiences have provided valuable learning opportunities.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager, holds firsthand knowledge of the midfield role, having played in that position for top clubs in England and Scotland during his playing career.

Akinola is full of praise for Arteta's coaching methods, emphasizing that the Spanish football tactician brings out the best in his players.

Acknowledging the positive relationship with Arteta, Akinola mentioned that he had more interactions with the manager before going out on loan than during his loan spells.

Arteta generally tends to focus on the first-team players, but Akinola considers him a top-class manager, appreciating his honesty and direct communication style.

Arteta provided Akinola with encouraging feedback, recognizing his strengths in terms of tenacity, off-the-ball work, and ball-winning abilities.

However, the manager also pointed out an area for improvement, urging Akinola to sharpen his passing precision. As midfield is considered one of the most demanding positions on the field, Arteta's guidance on enhancing passing skills can be crucial for Akinola's development.

With such valuable advice and support from a seasoned manager like Arteta, Tim Akinola has an opportunity to further refine his skills and make his mark at Arsenal in the future.
