Arokodare hits 100 as Genk defeat Anderlecht

Posted : 07 April 2025

Genk's Nigerian forward, Tolu Arokodare, celebrated a remarkable achievement by reaching his 100th appearance for the club in their 2-1 victory over Anderlecht on Sunday in the Jupiler Pro League's Championship playoff. Although he didn't score in the match, Arokodare's contribution to the team's overall performance was vital.

Genk opened the scoring early in the match thanks to an exquisite strike from Joris Kayembe, who found the top corner of the goal, putting the visitors 1-0 up. Anderlecht fought back in the second half, and Cesar Saul Huerta Valera equalized for the hosts with a powerful header that hit the left post, making it 1-1.

The match remained closely contested, but Genk secured the three points in the 84th minute when Zakaria El Ouahdi scored a stunning first-time shot just outside the box, clinching the 2-1 win for his team. Arokodare, who was substituted in the 76th minute, could take great pride in achieving the 100-appearance milestone in this crucial match.

Over his 100 games for Genk, Arokodare has accumulated 12 assists and 37 goals, affirming his status as one of the top forwards in Belgium. His consistency and valuable contributions since joining the club have made him a key player in Genk's attacking lineup.

Arokodare's road to success wasn't immediate, and he initially had to adjust to the demands of the league. However, with the guidance of former Genk manager Thorsten Fink, the young striker blossomed into one of Belgium’s finest attackers, now sitting at the top of the Jupiler Pro League’s goal-scoring charts.

The 24-year-old's excellent form with Genk earned him a spot on Nigeria's national team during the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. His debut for the Super Eagles came in a match against Rwanda, under the direction of new coach Eric Chelle, marking a fresh chapter in his international career.

Looking ahead, Arokodare's future is incredibly promising, both at the club level with Genk and on the international stage with Nigeria. With his talent and hard work, there's no doubt that he'll continue to shine in the years to come.
