Liverpool manager Arne Slot has addressed recent rumors surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold's potential move to Real Madrid, stating that the 26-year-old is fully focused on recovering from his current injury. Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has reportedly been in advanced talks with the Spanish club over a free transfer.
However, Slot emphasized that the defender's main priority is getting back to fitness following an ankle injury he sustained in Liverpool's Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in March, which caused him to miss England’s World Cup qualifiers.
Slot further clarified that Alexander-Arnold's injury has kept him from showcasing his usual top performances, both for his club and country, and that the player is solely concentrating on his recovery.
"For him, he is fully focused on his recovery," Slot said, adding that the team is supporting the full-back as he works to return to action as soon as possible.
Liverpool is facing a period of uncertainty with several key players, including Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah, all out of contract at the end of the season. While discussions over new deals for Van Dijk and Salah remain unresolved, Slot expressed that he is not concerned by the ongoing contract situations.
With Liverpool maintaining a commanding 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League, the focus remains on the team’s performance, with their next match against Everton at Anfield scheduled for Wednesday.
