Argentina Reaches Copa America Final with 2-0 Victory Over Canada

Argentina has once again advanced to the Copa America final, marking their second consecutive appearance and fourth in the last five tournaments. They secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Canada at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with Julián Alvarez opening the scoring in the 23rd minute and Lionel Messi doubling the lead in the 51st minute with his 109th goal for the national team, moving him to second place on the all-time list of national team goalscorers.

 

This victory was Argentina's second win over Canada in the current tournament, having also beaten them in the group stage. The decisive goals came from Alvarez, who skillfully navigated through Canada's defense to score, and Messi, who redirected a shot from Enzo Fernandez into the net, much to the delight of the 80,102 spectators in attendance.

 

Messi's goal was a significant milestone, bringing his total to 109 goals in 186 appearances for Argentina, surpassing Iranian legend Ali Daei and positioning him just 21 goals behind all-time leader Cristiano Ronaldo. The achievement adds another highlight to Messi's illustrious career, especially as he nears its conclusion, a fact he acknowledged with a mix of joy and nostalgia after the match.

 

Argentina now looks forward to the final, where they will face either Colombia or Uruguay. With Messi leading the charge, Argentina is just one win away from adding another prestigious trophy to their collection, continuing their quest for footballing glory in the Copa America.
