Argentina 2023: Victory over Italy for Nigerians, says coach

The Coach of victorious Flying Eagles has dedicated the team's victory to all Nigerians and lovers of the game.
Bosso in an interview on the sidelines of his team's 2-0 win over tournament's favourites, Italy praised his team for their resilience.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that the Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday night caused one of the greatest upset of the ongoing tournament after they roundly beat European champions, Italy by 2-0.
Nigeria did not only beat Italy but qualified for the Round of 16, from the Group D tagged as group of death ahead of tournament favourites and five times winners Brazil and European superpower, Italy then less-fancied Dominican Republic.
Expectedly, the young Azurris dominated the game throughout the first half to prevent Nigeria's free flow of football and scoring chances.
The first half ended in a goalless draw.
However, Salim Fago broke the deadlock for Nigeria in the 61st minute with a flying header then Jude Sunday put the game beyond Italy in the 94th minute to seal the game.
Nigeria has now qualified for the second round of the tournament with a game to spare against Brazil.
Elated Bosso however said that the win was a great motivation for the team.
"I appreciate everybody for thier efforts, it is a victory for every Nigerian.
"We played our first game against lowly rated Dominican Republic and we all saw the result, nevertheless, the result was expected end.
"First matches are always difficult as it also happens that this is the first World Cup for some of the players.
"With the win over Brazil, Nigerians should expect greater performance from the team,'' he said.
