Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has ruled out the possibility of withdrawing from the England squad ahead of their Nations League matches against Greece and Ireland, despite a lingering hip injury. England is set to face Greece on Thursday and Ireland on Sunday at Wembley, with several key players, including Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, having already pulled out due to injury. The withdrawals have sparked criticism from England captain Harry Kane, who emphasized that national team duty should always come before club commitments.
Gordon, who was substituted due to a hip issue during Newcastle’s 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, addressed his decision to continue with the England squad. The 23-year-old revealed that the injury, which had been bothering him for a couple of weeks, had improved significantly since he arrived with the team. He explained that the medical staff had done an excellent job in helping him recover, allowing him to train without significant discomfort.
Despite the injury concerns, Gordon was adamant that he would not miss the opportunity to represent his country. "There was no chance I would not come here," he stated, emphasizing his commitment to the national team. England, currently second in Group B2 with nine points, is aiming for promotion to League A, although they have already lost to Greece in their previous encounter.
