Ange Postecoglou sets Premier League record with Tottenham's strong start

Posted : 24 October 2023
Ange Postecoglou has etched his name in Premier League history by accumulating a record-breaking 23 points in his first nine matches as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur. This feat surpasses the previous record of 22 points jointly held by Mike Walker and Guus Hiddink during their initial nine matches in charge of Norwich City (1992-93 season) and Chelsea (2008-09 season) respectively.

Spurs clinched a comfortable 2-0 victory over Fulham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, securing their position at the top of the Premier League table with a two-point lead.

Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, Postecoglou credited the collective effort, emphasizing the encouraging start to the season and the team's consistent performances. He acknowledged that their encounter with Fulham required patience and commended Fulham's defensive organization. Despite the impressive points tally, Postecoglou didn't shy away from critiquing his team's second-half performance, highlighting a dip in their ball control while expressing his belief in maintaining discipline and control in their approach.

Ange Postecoglou's tenure at Tottenham has injected fresh vitality into the team, marking a stark contrast from their previous season's eighth-place finish, which deprived them of European football for the first time in over a decade.

This season's impressive start mirrors their 1960-61 campaign when they embarked on an astounding 11-game winning streak en route to a league title. As they prepare to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Spurs have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, even though they've played one game more than their competitors.
