Norwegian top-flight club Odds BK has officially announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Abdulrazak Ishaq, born in 2002, from the Belgian club Anderlecht. The transfer, confirmed on their official website, involves a loan agreement that will see Ishaq with Odds BK until the end of the 2024 Norwegian season.
Ishaq, who began his career at Unity Academy in Nigeria, joined Anderlecht in the summer of 2022. However, he has faced limited playing time at the Belgian club, leading to his current loan move. This marks the second time he has been loaned out by Anderlecht, following a stint at Swedish club BK Häcken for the entirety of the previous season.
Returning to Scandinavia, Ishaq becomes the second Nigerian young talent to be temporarily signed by Odds BK this summer. He follows forward Abduljeleel Abdulateef, who also joined the Norwegian club on loan.
Odds BK head coach Kenneth Dokken has praised Ishaq as a versatile player. Dokken notes that while Ishaq is likely most effective as a box-to-box midfielder, he is also capable of performing well as a central midfielder. His adaptability extends to playing as a fullback and wing-back, showcasing his physicality and stamina.
At Anderlecht, Ishaq made six appearances for the first team, including two starts. He also contributed to the reserve team, Anderlecht Futures, with two goals and two assists. His performance in these games highlights his potential and readiness for the new challenge.
Before his time with Anderlecht, Ishaq embarked on his European career with Norrköping, where he accumulated 61 appearances across various competitions. This experience has helped shape his development and readiness for the competitive environment at Odds BK.
The move to Odds BK represents a significant opportunity for Ishaq to gain more first-team experience and make an impact in the Norwegian league. With his versatile skill set and previous European experience, he is well-positioned to contribute effectively to his new team.
