Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has acknowledged Sir Jim Ratcliffe's recent criticism of the squad, stating that it is up to him and his players to change the owner's perception. Ratcliffe, in an interview with BBC Sport, expressed concerns that some players were "not good enough" and "overpaid," without specifying individuals.
However, he did mention that the club had "inherited" signings such as Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, whose contributions have yet to justify their costs.
Amorim admitted that both he and the squad have underperformed this season, including experienced players like Casemiro, who has previously won numerous titles.
He emphasized the need for improvement and accepted Ratcliffe's remarks as a fair assessment. Despite the criticism, Amorim remains focused on proving their quality and changing the narrative surrounding the team’s performances.
Despite Ratcliffe’s blunt evaluation, Amorim stressed that his relationship with the United board remains strong. He described their discussions as "honest and blunt" and noted that he has always felt supported, particularly by Ratcliffe. As United prepare for their Europa League match against Real Sociedad, Amorim remains determined to turn the season around and demonstrate the potential of his squad.
