Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that he will not be afforded the same patience that Mikel Arteta received at Arsenal. Arteta, who took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, has transformed the club into a title-challenging side despite winning only the FA Cup in 2020.
Amorim admitted that while his situation at United is different, he finds inspiration in how Arteta handled early challenges at Arsenal, particularly in managing the club's transition and rebuilding process.
As United prepare to face Arsenal at Old Trafford, Amorim faces a squad depleted by injuries, with Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount among the long-term absentees. While he expressed hope that Amad Diallo could return before the season’s end, he confirmed that players like Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte could be available soon.
The match comes after contrasting European results for both teams, with Arsenal securing a dominant 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, while United settled for a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
Amorim also discussed the challenges of balancing domestic and European commitments, emphasizing that the Europa League presents greater difficulties than the Champions League due to its impact on Premier League recovery.
He defended United’s squad rotation strategy in European fixtures, pointing out that the demanding schedule requires constant adjustments to maintain fitness and performance levels. As he continues to navigate his first season at Old Trafford, Amorim remains aware of the high expectations and limited time he has to implement his vision.
