Newcomers Evergreen All Stars and Samba FC both threw down the gauntlet at the second edition of the All Stars Unity Cup after thrashing their opponents, Unique Soccer Club and Ladoje All Stars, respectively.
Playing their first games over the weekend at the Agidingbi Grammar School field, Evergreen showed their readiness by defeating Unique SC 3-0, while Samba FC triumphed 4-0 over Ladoje. In other games played during the weekend, the defending champion and host of the competition, Liberty Stars, had to settle for a goalless draw against Optimum FC. The match between Old Trafford and Dream Stars also ended goalless.
Total Football FC overcame Linda Sweet Athletes 2-1, with Araromi All Stars securing a 1-0 victory against CAS. Additionally, KFFI achieved a hard-fought 1-0 win against Football and Fitness Club, and the game between Agege Sports Club and Oke Aro All Stars ended 1-1.
The second leg is expected to take place this weekend at the same venue, with the aggregate winner over two legs qualifying for the quarterfinals of the tournament.
While expressing his appreciation for all the teams that came together to enjoy themselves, the president of Liberty Stars, Ikenna Anene, said the main motive of the competition is to allow everyone to come together, enjoy the game of football, and use the opportunity to network among themselves. Anene also expressed gratitude for the support from DTO Industries, the major sponsor of the tournament, along with other sponsors such as Star Plus Battery, The Place, Zion Safety, Paulvic Inter-Link Limited, Grej Table Water, Flash Change, LifeWorth, Crestpart, Dee-Dove, Jeffrock, and others who have been supporting the championship.
