Al-Nassr in Talks to Extend Cristiano Ronaldo’s Contract Until 2026

Posted : 01 October 2024

Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr has reportedly entered negotiations with Cristiano Ronaldo over a two-year contract extension, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Shira. Ronaldo’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this season, but the club hopes to retain the Portuguese forward until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup. If the deal goes through, Ronaldo would make history as the first footballer to actively compete across six World Cup tournaments. The 39-year-old initially signed a $200 million-per-season deal with Al-Nassr in January 2023, and reports suggest the club believes he will finish his career with them.

Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to set new records. During the recent international break, he reached the 900-goal milestone with his strike in the Nations League. Additionally, last week, he became the first player in history to score 30 goals in 17 consecutive calendar years when he netted in Al-Nassr’s 2-0 victory over Al-Wahda in the Saudi Pro League, bringing his career tally to 903 goals.

Although Ronaldo has delivered impressive individual performances since joining Al-Nassr, he has yet to capture a domestic league title with the team. His only silverware so far has come from winning the Arab Champions Cup. The Saudi club is optimistic that extending Ronaldo’s stay will help them achieve further success in domestic competitions.

If the contract extension is finalized, Ronaldo’s continued presence at Al-Nassr could lead to more achievements for both the player and the club, with the potential for him to close out his career while making history at the 2026 World Cup.
