Al-Hilal turns to Osimhen after Mbappe-Messi pursuit
Posted : 27 July 2023
Al-Hilal, a team in the Saudi Arabian Pro League, has redirected their focus to securing the signing of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, following unsuccessful attempts to lure Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
Despite submitting a record-breaking bid of 300 million euros for Mbappe, the French superstar declined the offer, expressing his disinterest in playing in Saudi Arabia even for a season.
Similarly, Al-Hilal's ambitious pursuit of Messi was thwarted as he chose to join Inter Miami despite their lucrative offer.
Recognizing the slim chances of signing Mbappe, Al-Hilal is now prepared to initiate negotiations with Napoli for Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker has been presented with a new contract that would extend his stay with Napoli until 2027, but no deal has been finalized, and a potential sale has not been ruled out, making him available in the transfer market.
Reports suggest that Napoli might consider selling Osimhen if they receive a bid that's too enticing to refuse, with the speculated figure being around €200 million.
However, this hefty price tag has dampened the interest from European buyers, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, whose pursuits have cooled off in recent weeks.
Osimhen's impressive performance for Napoli stands out, with 59 goals and fourteen assists in 101 appearances.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Al-Hilal remains hopeful of acquiring the talented Super Eagles striker to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
