Al-Hilal offers €140 million for Victor Osimhen, Napoli declines, Saudis offer massive weekly salary

Posted : 01 August 2023
The pursuit of European football stars by an Arab country continues, with Al-Hilal making a staggering €140 million offer for Victor Osimhen. However, Napoli, the Italian champions, have turned down the offer and are demanding €150 million just to consider it. The Saudis have also offered the striker a massive weekly salary to entice him.

Al-Hilal is determined to bring in top soccer stars this summer and had previously attempted a jaw-dropping €300 million offer to PSG for Kylian Mbappe, who declined to meet with them. They also tried to secure the services of Lionel Messi before he joined Inter Miami.

Victor Osimhen, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker, had a remarkable season in Serie A, being named the attacking player of the season after scoring 26 goals and assisting in four more in 32 appearances. Manchester United had shown interest in him, but negotiations for a new contract with Napoli have hit a deadlock. Osimhen's current contract with Napoli expires in the summer of 2025, and the parties couldn't reach an agreement in a recent meeting.

Al-Hilal has been active in the transfer market, already securing deals for Ruben Neves (Wolves), Kalidou Koulibaly (Chelsea), Malcolm (Zenit St. Petersburg), and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio) this summer. These signings have made Malcolm (€60m), Neves (€55m), and Milinkovic-Savic (€40m) the three most expensive players in the history of the Saudi league.

Meanwhile, Saudi champions Al-Ittihad has also been making notable acquisitions, with the latest being the signing of Fabinho until 2026. The Brazilian midfielder, who previously played for Liverpool, is the second player from the English club to move to Saudi Arabia this summer. Jordan Henderson also signed for Al-Ittifaq, which will earn Liverpool £40 million.
